Assessment Techniques Activity I Unit IV

Which assessment techniques from the ones mentioned in the book do you prefer? Mention the reasons.
Writing
Flashcards: It is a good way to make our students write structured sentences about what is described in the flashcard by helping them to improve their writing.
Free writing: It provides the students to write about something that they like and their interests.
Writing instructions: It is good to make the students practice their writing, explaining the process to do something.
Individual or self-assessment work: It let the students to perform their writing abilities and we as teachers can provide useful feed-back that students can use to progress in their writing.

Speaking
Small group discussion: I would use it because it let the students speak to each other as well as they feel more comfortable than when they speak in front of the class as an oral test, our role as teachers in this case is to monitor them.
Small presentation: It can be individually, the teacher can give the opportunity to the students to choose a topic to talk about it in front of the class, it helps them to use the language in a real context, in this case the teacher has the opportunity to know about the pronunciation, intonation and rhythm that students use when they speak.
Picture description: It is useful to know how students use the language; particularly to show that they are able to describe something using adjectives, colors, shapes, sizes, etc.
Survey Pair work: It can be applied in a real situation, the teacher can hear clearly to each of the participants.

Listening
Sequence exercises: It is practical to make sure that the students are using their listening skills.
Fill in the gaps: It is useful to know if students are able to answer the questions by just listening to a conversation.

Reading
Reading a story: The teacher has to look for the best topics to bring to her class because it is going to encourage the students to read.
Fill in the gaps: It is useful to know if students understand the reading and if they are able to answer.
True/ false: It is helpful to know if the students comprehended the reading, first they read and then they will say if the answers are true or false.

Vocabulary
Synonyms and antonyms: They are useful to make students increase their vocabulary and help them to have more options when they write. The teacher can provide some sentences where the students have to change the underlined word for a synonym or antonym in order to practice them.

Grammar
Fill in the gaps: It is more focused in grammar structure; students have the opportunity to practice all that they have learnt about grammar. It can be practiced when they write because they use grammar in general not only in a specific way.

There are a lot of techniques that we can use in the classroom but we have to take in account that our students need to learn better, the teacher needs to adapt herself to the learners of each classroom since each student is different and learns in a different way; they need a variety of activities to complement their knowledge. The teacher also needs to motivate the students to know about their progress and to learn about their errors to become better.
